How to set up your Home Voiceover Studio
Voice-over services are often offered by freelance artists.
This is because of the all encompassing nature of the art. It forms a part of
the entertainment industry and can be carried on by professionals who are
engaged in many different fields. Many actors also treat it like a segue into
the film industry and that is why they offer their services independently.
Voice over services can be offered by people through online forums and their
portfolios judged in the same way. The problem arises when the client asks you
if you can deliver the project from your home. If not, then you would’ve be
required to incur the travel expenses on your own. For the benefits that it
has, many artists resort to setting up their own mini s recording studio at
home and we have laid down the steps on how to do it.
1.
Create a work station- Voice over recording
requires a certain worn station that you dedicate to it alone. This would have
the necessary equipment which we will further discuss and also which can be
made sound proof. You need to segment a section of your house and make it sound
proof for your recording to be immaculate. The last thing you would want is for
your work to be rejected because the chirping of the birds makes it unusable.
2.
Get the necessary equipment- The reason why
setting up a recording studio at home is easy is because of the small number of
devices you would need for the same. All you need is a mic, headphones to
listen to your recording later, a recording device which is now available with
a laptop and a software to edit. The rest depends entirely upon the voice over talent. This
is however the bare minimum that you need. You can always add a few devices to
enhance the quality and so on. But using these three things is also enough.
3.
Get some professional help- There are many small
professionals and agencies who would help you set all these devices up. They
have to be maintained in a certain way and even though you can get much of the
information online, the set up can be done with help from a professional. They
will adjust the levels of the mic and the recorded according to your height and
also teach you some basic tips and tricks about how to modulate it.
4.
Post recording process- Voice over is just not
about recording. You would be doing a certain number of recordings and re-doing
certain bits in order to perfect it. You would also be required to tweak your
recording at a few places in order to enhance it. For all these things you will
need some editing to be done which can be managed with certain software. You
should use your studio to listen to it and then make the changes. This can also
be managed on your laptop.
Voice-over Grid also has a voice over studio which can use if you find the set up complicated. Their
charges are minimal and the quality is top notch.
